Mompreneurs WW: Tell us about your company.
Chirin: Mama’s Box is an online subscription box service for mothers. We make motherhood easier by sending mothers a box of 4-6 useful products and services tailored to her specific needs each month. Mama’s Box is available from early pregnancy until your child’s second birthday. Mothers can subscribe for themselves or gift a friend. We offer individual gift boxes or bundles of 3, 6 and 12 months (one box every month). Mama’s Box was created to help mothers save time and money, by introducing them to tried and tested brands and sending them the products they need every month.
Mompreneurs WW: How did the idea of starting it come about and who inspired you?
Chirin: Having had my two children only 12 months apart- I realized how difficult it is to keep up with our changing pregnancy needs, followed by our child’s monthly needs. One month he’s teething, suddenly he’s crawling and then he has a diaper rash. With so many products on the market – it was overwhelming and time consuming trying to find the right product at the right time, so I had to find a way to make this part of motherhood a little easier. That’s how Mama’s Box was created – a monthly box introducing you to the products you and your baby need each month, so mothers can make smarter purchasing decisions.
Mompreneurs WW: What is the best part of what you do and the toughest?
Chirin: The best part of what I do, is the learning curve that comes with being an entrepreneur – I love learning something new every single day. The toughest must be the irregular working hours, although I often view the flexibility as an advantage too.
Mompreneurs WW: How many kids do you have and how old are they?
Chirin: I have two kids, a 6 year old boy and a 5 year old girl!
Mompreneurs WW: How do you juggle work and life balance?
Chirin: I just take things one day at a time- and decide what is/are the one or two most important things that I need to get done that day. Is it related to Mama’s Box? Do my kids need me? Or do I just need a little me time?
Mompreneurs WW: What’s a book you always recommend and why?
Chirin: I just finished reading the book Becoming Michelle Obama and I highly recommend it.
Mompreneurs WW: What advice would you give a Mompreneur who was just starting out?
Chirin: Just do it! And I don’t mean the Nike slogan; I mean stop waiting for the “right time”. There will never be a right time, just start right now and use every spare minute you have and invest it into your new venture.
Mompreneurs WW: Your favorite quote is…
Chirin: I don’t have one! Maybe I’ll create my own one day. Just joking!
